ONLINE COURSE - Singing Warm-ups
The story of my online course is somewhat covered in my post about working with John Henny, but there are a few things missing from that post that I’d love to tell you about.
I started studying for an MA in Vocal Pedagogy in November 2020. It’s a great course and I’ve learned a lot (though it is very challenging!) My 3rd module was a research project, and I decided to look at warm-ups. Specifically, I wanted to know the habits and knowledge that my students arrived at Uni with, and what obstacles they faced when it came to warming up. Alongside a lot of reading, I put together a presentation for them, and then interviewed them a couple of weeks after the presentation to see whether their habits had changed because of the presentation…
The feedback was pretty positive, and the presentation has since been rolled out to more students at the start of the academic year. As I keep learning and developing my own teaching, I realise more and more that there are very little areas where my students’ needs diverge; everyone has different interests, needs, strengths, weaknesses - the few places where they all meet (warm-ups, practising, performance considerations for the specific module I teach) are the places that I have focussed my learning so far.
And so, following the challenge set by John Henny, I created an online course to share what I’m learning and what I share with my students. It’s things I wish I’d known when I started singing, and singing lessons. It builds in space for variables like more/less time, whether volume is a consideration, or whether you’re finding things super boring that day!
I realised recently, talking to a friend, that all this is pretty cool. And also that I hadn’t really told anyone about it. So, I’m going to start trying to remember…!
You can buy my online course for £11.99 via THIS LINK.
Thank you.
